I've been so preoccupied with so much of late that the homestead has been neglected in some areas. In particular the sheep need tending. They should have been taken care of in May! I am hoping to have the most part of it done by the end of this weekend.
The Joe Hall Creek junior salmonid fish rescue is currently in progress. The Tiller Ranger District fish biologist with 4 assistants is electrofishing Joe Hall Creek and transporting the young Coho salmon and Steelhead Anadromous fish to more hospitable habitat until Joe Hall recovers its sustainability levels. This will be the fourth year that we have gone through this process. It's hot and miserable work this time of year. Our hope is that someday Joe Hall will return to its perennial flow condition.
The Umpqua Basin fish barrier survey continues. Since timber harvest is very low on the National Forest the roads, culverts and other areas are showing signs of neglect. This is strictly due to financial shortages and they must be addressed. The extensive amount of biomass in the forest which is the result of clear cutting practices of the past could easily provide working capital for the local economy and sustainable services for the National Forest. The Douglas County Forest Council is working on this problem. The solution is a no brainer but there is a tremendous amount of mistrust all the way around the table.

P.S. The sheep are done. Whew! I'm getting too old for this. :)
