The fish barrier survey is moving forward in spite of the various and sundry hindrances that haunted my efforts. Last week, for example, I managed to get another flat tire as a result of the rugged terrain needed to be traversed to reach one of the sites. Well, yesterday was a howling day of success with a record of sites visited and documented. This morning started with a bang. Meaning I managed another flat tire. (All of these costs come out of my pocket since I didn't imagine this type of problem when negotiating the contract :) ). So off to the tire factory I go. I have ordered a set of six ply LT truck tires in the hope of mitigating the losses. Spend more money to loose less money??? It is rugged, rugged, terrain and I will add that I have traversed far more testy places of geography on this old earth on foot but nothing quite this intense with a vehicle.
One of the most recent efforts on the Singing Falls Stream Restoration Project involved the placement of two very large 40 foot long I beams to span one of the stream tributaries here. I've placed an image of the installment event for your perusal. The cribbing effort has made great strides toward completion. Still a way to go but I am happy with the progress.
The LHC event at CERN has been much on my mind of late and all the more so since tomorrow is THE day that it is fired up. My understanding is that full capacity will not be reached until some time next year. It is then that the beams will be accelerated to 99.998% of the speed of light and collided to express the force of near twice the speed of light exerted on matter. Such is the nature of our times. I do find it amusing that the scientific community asserts emphatically with great confidence that "nothing bad will happen" even though it is simultaneously and vigorously postulating that what will happen or be discovered is not known. Funny, no? I am totally mesmerized by discovery and totally paranoid of the discoverers.

Stanley, Could you explain
Stanley, Could you explain the purpose of the beams and the cribs full of rocks? Thanks. Jeff
