OWEB Biennial Conference

Eugene, Oregon is hosting the state wide OWEB Biennial Conference. OWEB (Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board) is the main instrument for the dispensing of funds for watershed restoration projects state wide. It is a gathering event for members of the various watershed councils to interact with each other and OWEB. As President Elect of the Umpqua Basin Watershed Council (PUR-Partnership for the Umpqua Rivers) it is incumbent upon me to attend.
There is a full agenda. The lecture of greatest interest from this perspective is titled, "Water, Fish, Beavers, Tribes".
Yet, I am hard pressed to go. My dear wife is once again left with carrying the weight of the many homestead tasks on her shoulders. Not that she hasn't born this burden before but the fleeting nature of youth is quickly escaping us. Already I look forward to come home.
Tonight she is preparing chicken mushroom soup. It is a wonderful dish laden with shitake mushrooms and the richness of greens mingled with the warmth of our ancient and overused wood cook stove. It is especially fitting on this evening of the first major rainstorm of the season. The coho salmon with be arriving soon if this trend keeps up. Most intriguing is the snow capped mountains to be seen up in the canyon. Very early indeed.
