So I have been remiss blogging.
The new orchard is in. Five apples (rust resistant), one Italian plumb and two fig trees.
The grapes are in also and they are not fairing as well as the trees.
I think I am at about 60 % success with my various cuttings. The varieties are Concord, Delaware, Price, Prairie Star, America, Swenson Red, Espirit, Dilemma, and assorted cuttings from old homesteads in this mountainous region. Most of the old homestead varieties are of the concord type but the grape clusters are smaller. Nice plump sweet grapes though.
I inoculated the plantings with Endo and Ecto Mycorrhizae and various other amendments to help them along. We'll see by summers end what the final count will be.
Last winter I really hacked back the original vineyard in the hopes of revitalizing the old vines. It's looking real good there.
I finally broke down and purchased a troy built horse tiller. For forty years we have been bio-intensively double digging our huge garden space by hand. We're finding ourselves not quite as able as in the old days.
I promptly ruined the motor. Long story of my dumb and the new motor is on back order.
I did manage to get the better part of the garden space tilled and all of the new vineyard and orchard.
The garden is going in. All kinds of veggies.
Attended the Oregon State Beaver work shop on the 27th of May. Very enlightening and well worth the effort to drive to Salem, the capital.
Did a fish rescue today with the Forest Service here at Singing Falls. The first in a series. There were close to 2,000 fry in the small tributary that leads to the waterfall. Glad we could do it.
Turned 62 years of age yesterday. Time to collect Social Security, sit back and relax...ha!
More later....
