The proper sizing of a yoke is determined by being able to comfortably place the palm of your hand between the neck of the ox and the bow of the yoke as illustrated. You don't want it loose or tight. If you expect to have a spurt of growth in the team it is better to err on the loose side. So the formula for the bow width (BW) is the width of the ox neck plus the width of the palm of an adult hand.
